Summer Internship Opportunity!

Portsmouth Water & Fire District is looking to hire a full-time college student with an engineering or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) related background for a summer internship. Student will work up to 40 hours per week and be paid weekly at $15.00/hr. Position will run from mid to late May through August of 2019.

Compensation also includes the experience of working with the engineering, GIS and Operations staff of a public water utility, including exposure to the operation, maintenance, construction and repair of water system facilities. Additionally, intern will get exposure to various IT and facilities software.

Major duties will include:

–        Working in the field gathering Global Positioning System (GPS) data for the GIS water distribution database using as-built records and state-of-the-art equipment under the direction of GIS Analyst.
–        Locating the water system using a metal detector and shovel to uncover buried components in order to ground-truth, expose and assess.
–        Gathering real-time field data on water facilities under construction while job shadowing under the direction of a Distribution System Operator.
–        Importing, correcting, and inputting gathered data using various GPS and GIS related software.

The Portsmouth Water and Fire District will hold its annual election on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Portsmouth Water and Fire District Office. One Moderator and one Treasurer will be elected for three year terms.

Nomination Papers may be obtained at the District Office, 1944 East Main Road on or after April 12, 2019 and must be returned to said office no later than 4:00 P.M. on May 13, 2019.

Annual Leak Detection Program Starting April 8th

PWFD is running a program to detect leaks throughout our water distribution system. During this time employees and a contractor will be using equipment to listen for any abnormalities on the water line piping around various parts of town, most commonly on road shoulders near property lines.
