Lead Service Line Inventory

  • As part of EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision, they have mandated that every public water supplier take an inventory of all the water service lines in their distribution system to identify and remove lead service lines.
  • There are almost 7,000 metered water service lines in the District. Of these, the material of a small percentage of water services are unknown.

  • We have partnered with 120 Water, using their Public Transparency Dashboard (PTD) to aid in this endeavor.
  • Is your service line documented? Click the PTD link above and search your address. If your property is unknown, please give us a call at (401) 683-2090 to schedule a quick appointment to identify the pipe material entering your home.
  • District Operators are also knocking on select customer’s doors in order to inventory the remaining unknown service lines. Operators carry IDs and can be asked to show identification.

Meter Replacement (Ongoing)

The District is in the process of replacing water meters.  Any water meters that are nearing 21 years of service are being targeted for replacement.  Additionally, any meter that requires repair, relocation, testing, appears to have reading issues or other routine maintenance work during the normal course of business will be replaced if it has reached 75% percent of its useful life, or 16 years of age.

Transmitter Replacement Project (Ongoing)

We are in the process of replacing transmitter devices throughout the district. These devices enable us to acquire water meter readings through radio communication and are usually located on the outside of the house near where your water service enters. Over time these devices need replacing due to being defective, coming to end of life, tampering, or various other reasons. Unfortunately, in order to do the switch out, a PWFD water distribution operator will need to step onto the property. We appreciate your patience while we perform these replacements. This will be an ongoing project.

GPS Project (Ongoing)

We are in the process of building a high accuracy electronic mapping/database system for the water distribution system. In order to gather critical data, each customer’s curb stop (shut off valve) must be located. To minimize interruption and to maximize efficiency we are using past engineering drawings, a metal detector, and advanced global positioning system hardware. Unfortunately, we may have to do some light digging with hand tools to visually confirm the location of these curb stops as many have become buried over the years. We appreciate your patience while our team of water distribution operators, geographical information systems analyst, and intern work to accomplish this project. This will be an ongoing project.
